Babble Babble Babble... Blah Blah Blah...

Im a huge follower of the Babble articles/blogs... they're typically funny, inspiring, educational, or something of that sort. But the one the posted today really kinda sent me into a whirl wind... It was about horrible hair cuts for kids... one of which included the Mohawk... and a picture of Gavin Rossdale's son - Kingston... Saying below it "Should your three-year-old really look like a pissed off 14-year-old?" Now lets be real - i think this is the worst possible picture that exists of poor Gavin, because I have seen him looking pretty dang cute... and the weird gag face they caught him making, maybe not his most flattering moment... but to make a comment like the one tagged, to me is just ignorant. However, to me it wasn't even the article that got me going... it was all of the comments below it from the parents... so so so sad... so close-minded... so judgmental... and we wonder how there can be so much hate in this world... its judgmental parents raising judgmental kids... Here are a few of my favorite quotes from the article. "Mullets should be made illegal and if u put one on ur kid u should be arrested 4 child abuse as 4 mohawks shame on parents for making your kids look ridiculous like that!" This parent should be arrested 4 bad grammar... "No. I am in the pick your battles camp, and agree that hair is harmless; however, I want my kids to project a certain image to the world, and trash is not it. There is enough judgement out there, why make it worse? The little boys I know that sport mohawks are some of the nastiest, most violent kids I know; self-fulfilling prophecy?" Trash? really? Nasty - Violent Kids? wow... I want to meet this nasty violent three year old with a mohawk she is talking about... he must be intense.
Over there on the right is my scary, violent, 3 year old. Doesn't he look so angry! Hide your kids!! Sheild your eyes!! Oh, Oh, and this is a favorite... "it looks retarded.. fowhawk maybe..." It looks retarded? So now we have a judgmental parent stereotyping about intelligence? Because calling someone retarded based on their looks is a really appropriate and politically correct thing to do... I bet that mom is a way better mom that I am... you know - since my kids has/had a mohawk. This one however... makes me really happy :) I love sarcasm... "Those kids are shitheads because of their hair-dos. There's this weird neurological thing that happens when a certain hair cut tops somebody's head - and with mohawks the wearer actually BECOMES a bad kid." <-- my hero. Its funny/sad to me that people can actually believe this kind of thing... that people are raising their KIDS to believe this kind of thing... that people can be good or bad based on their color, their location, their hair cut... their sexual orientation... their religious preference... the list goes on. If I can do one thing right in parenting, I hope it will be to raise my kids openly - and to let them make their own decisions on people based on the PERSON - not the things that surround them...

Would love to hear your input on this... maybe I'm being dramatic... maybe I'm taking it too personally... or maybe Im right on being offended by the ignorance that is pushed so harshly onto children... whatever your stance - I'm interested in hearing your perspective. And for your viewing pleasure... some more pictures of my mean and nasty child with a mohawk ;)
Angry baby... obviously... He was probably cursing at me here...
This is at Zavery's baby shower... I bet Izzaq went and beat some poor baby with that chain afterwards, LOL

  1. I feel the same way you do, however most people don't agree with me. I've said that my kids are allowed to make non-permanent choices (haircuts being one of those). I always tell people if my son (if I ever have one, or heck, even my daughter) wants to sport a mohawk then rock on, sweet baby, rock on!!! Now when I say this most of the time people look at me with this goofy little grin, almost as if they expect me to follow it up with "just kidding"!!! But I'm totally serious. And no, the haircut does not make the child, the parent makes the child. So these closed minded, judgemental parents are sure to create some little clones of themselves. Oh joy (<----sarcasm)

  2. I'm with you on this. My son was asked or better yet I should say that I was asked to shave my sons mohawk because it was a distraction and caused his behavior to worsen......Now really what I wanted to know was if it was the fact that the principle had an issue with him and his mohawk that caused the behavior or the mohawk itself because I switched him schools (mohawk and all) and he did just fine. People need to look outside their boxes and quit being so judgemental and small minded.

  3. My husband was just talking about the whole mohawk in school thing... and how they shouldn't be allowed to make them cut it in public school... ANd I know some schools have rules about coloring hair an unnatural color... but yet girls get highlights can string feathers in the hair and its no big deal... more than anything it seems like those rules are unfair between genders & styles...

  4. i have a 13 year old daughter who has blood red bangs in her blonde hair and a 11 year old son with a blue mohawk!!! both of my kids are on the honor roll and do great community work to help others. my kids love everyone and are the biggest sweethearts!
it really gets my panties in a bunch that parents teach their children to be close minded. to me YOU are the one who should be arrested for child abuse!!
and for the person who said retarded, be lucky we arent in the same room, i would smack your teeth out of your mouth!!!!

  5. I think that the 'image' parents should be worried about is the image that their child is portraying through their character, not their hair cut.

My family has been stereotyped because we have (a lot of) tattoos, both of my sons have had mohawks for more than half of their lives, my daughter has a hot pink stripe in her hair...and we are the proud parents of a beautiful, pit bull, princess named Lola..but guess what?!?! My two school age-children carry straight A/B grades, they are kind to EVERYONE, and not just those that are 'cool' and they respect adults!!!!

To put this 'label' of trash, or 'nasty' on a child based on their appearance is disgusting to me. These 'wonderful' parents who never allow their children to be independent, or have their own minds, will be the ones bailing their children out of juvie...seriously. Let's just all gather around and see who we can pick on next...doing nothing but developing hate in this generation of children. Shame on them! Shame on their holier-than-thou attitudes and shame on their parenting skills.

I couldn't agree with you more!

  6. I totally agree! I have a lot of very close-minded people in my family and I'm very fortunate to not have turned out like them. Some people are ridiculous. I'm going to raise my twins to be as open-minded as they want to be. My cousin lives 2 hrs away from us. The last time she saw the babies was in July, so we send as pics of them as we can. I sent her one of the baby girl twin in a pink and black dress with a skull on the front. She had and aunt on her fathers side visiting and her aunt saw the pick and said that it was awful of me to put something like that on my baby and that she wouldn't associate with people who lets their kids wear skulls! How narrow minded can you get!! I went out that day and bought the boy twin a skull onesie to match his sissy!

  7. I couldn't care less what other parents do with their children (within reason, of course). Hair cuts and hair styles are permanent. Do I like mullets or mohawks for my kids? No, but that doesn't meant that other kids are bad or ugly for sporting them. My boys are all older now and are responsible for their hair, so I have one sporting that stupid Justin Beiber hair... but again, it's just hair. I think it's silly... but it's his hair... just like when my oldest spikes his up like a porcupine. I would rather they have clean cut hair, but I can understand them wanting to rebel against the military lifestyle we live, so more power to them to wear their hair as they wish...

  8. Sorry, that should say are NOT permanent...

  9. If these 3 year olds w/mohawks are mean, nasty little terrorists maybe we should be looking at the parents in disgust for not raising their children right, NOT looking in disgust to the parents that have outgoing, polite, creative children with mohawks!!!

  10. The wallet chain is TOO freakin' cute! I'm a tattooed, pierced, sometimes mohawked mommy, so I'm all too familiar with this ugly train of thought. And I let my kids wear stick on tattoos (with discussions about why real ones are serious business) and put temporary color in their hair and choose their own clothes...Rather than bore you with the details of things people have said to me, I'll share how I cope. I know that the way I look is my choice, and that people will judge me for it. And sadly, some otherwise perfectly lovely people will sometimes choose not to associate with me for those choices. However, I am comfortable in my own skin, and whether it's twinset sweaters or combat boots for them, I want my kids to feel the same way. I will let them explore who they want to be, and continue to lead by example by being pleased with who I am.

  13. I'm WAAAAY late to the party on this one but I HEAR YOU!!! Ohmygosh. So my husband and I are both tattooed, fairly heavily, and we are also both Christians. Followers of Christ, I should say. So our son is 5 and will be in Kindergarten next year so I went to the local Christian school to check it out.. Every woman and girl was wearing a dress/skirt. I read the handbook and they don't allow boys to have hair past THEIR EARS(!?). WHAT? And obviously they don't allow "unnatural" hair colors of any kind, piercings, tattoos, etc. I just wondered what they would have done if they saw me without my coat on. But anyway, Jesus didn't judge people like that, and I want to be like Him, so I don't either. Plus I used to have crazy hair and a mohawk and piercings all over, hung out with punks, so I don't judge people for how they look. I tell my son that he shouldn't laugh at people or judge them for the way they look, because God loves them just the same as everyone. :) That's how Jesus was, and if people truly followed Him, and not just sat in a church every week and did squat when they left.. The world would be a better place. LOVE is above all else. I want to do this, I want to LIVE this way. I want my kids to see me and want to do the same. :) Just my two cents. Try to ignore the mean-spirited comments from people who are close-minded and judgemental. I know its hard sometimes, but you just have to live your life and raise your kids to be NOT that way, ya know? Anyway, God bless!! :)
